Since I started Pilates…I have very few episodes of lower back pain…

I had been suffering from chronic lower back and knee pain for several years. These issues had severely impacted my movement. I tried to address the problem by going to gyms and working out with different personal trainers. But it did not ease the pain and I ended up with additional issues. I finally decided to try Pilates and scheduled trial sessions with different instructors including Sherri, and I liked her teaching the most. She listens carefully, pinpoints the issue, and alters the Pilates movement to gain the same results without triggering the pain. Since I started Pilates classes, my range of motion has improved, I have very few episodes of lower back pain, and I can walk without using my knee brace! Thank you, Sherri!

I wish I had discovered Pilates sooner…

I took my first Pilates lesson at the age of 78.  After hearing about the value of Pilates training from a couple of friends, I decided to take lessons.  I was experiencing problems with muscle stiffness, less range of motion, some balance issues, and posture.  I started lessons once a week with Sherri.  Additionally, she gave me “homework”—Pilates exercises I could do at home.  After I had been doing Pilates for a few months, I noticed improvements in many daily activities.  I had always preferred sleeping on my stomach, but had not been able to for many years because of pain in my neck and shoulders.  Now I had the flexibility in both that made sleeping on my stomach possible once again.  I also noticed during the simple act of dressing that my strength and balance had improved so that I was was comfortable dressing without worry that I might lose my balance and fall.

I had been taking Pilates for a year when I discovered I was going to need open heart surgery.  I kept practicing Pilates right up to the surgery.  The strength I had gained from Pilates helped hasten my recovery post-surgery.  When asked to get up and walk, the nurses and occupational therapists were impressed with my ability to get up and down and walk the first days after the surgery due to the strength in my legs and core muscles.

I had started bicycle riding in my early 70’s and noticed improved endurance, speed and distance quite soon by doing my Pilates “homework exercises” on an every other day basis.  After the heart surgery and three months of cardio rehab, I was able to resume riding and soon returned to a good speed level and distance with continuing my Pilates training.

Having been a classical singer all my life, the experience of some loss of vocal range was a normal result of the aging voice.  The breathing that I was asked to use in the Pilates lessons is different from the breathing that I use in my singing.  However, the breathing management used in singing has improved as well as the vocal range.

Sherri’s teaching style is wonderfully thoughtful and her knowledge is amazing.  Sherri analyzed my physical strengths and needs and selected specific Pilates exercises to improve my flexibility and alignment, build strength, and have more flexible movement.  Within 3½ years the improvement has been amazing.  Physical activities are easier including bicycling.  Sherri is so very attentive and able to adjust a lesson content if my physical condition was less than normal at any session.

I am so grateful for Sherri’s excellent teaching and I truly recommend her to any one of any age.  I wish I had discovered Pilates sooner, but am happy to have added Pilates to my life.

Sherri is an amazing Pilates instructor. She was a student of mine. I immediately saw her talent and asked her if she ever thought of becoming a teacher. A year later she asked how the process works. We prepared for her audition into one of the most rigorous Pilates programs literally in the world. She got in and was a top student. I would often ask about her progress and everyone gushed about her. Later she came to work at my studio, where I witnessed an amazing eye for detail, keeping true to the method, and an immediate connection with her clients. She is truly missed since she has moved. Seattle’s loss is a huge gain for Eugene. If you want true Pilates results with a smile, checkout Sherri, you will have a blast!
